Which St. Johns Emergency Rooms Have a Hospital Behind Them?

October 29, 2026

Two ribbon cuttings in the same week of September gave north St. Johns County two new 24-hour emergency rooms, and the two are very different places.

UF Health Durbin Park officially opened on September 22, 2026, off State Road 9B. It is a five-story, 220,000-square-foot hospital with 99 beds, six operating rooms, two endoscopy suites, cardiac catheterization, interventional radiology and an emergency room that runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, according to St. Johns County's announcement. About 10 miles south, Baptist Health opened the Baptist & Wolfson Emergency Room at its SilverLeaf Medical Campus that same week, WJCT reported via WUSF. That one is an emergency center with imaging, part of an outpatient campus. It has no inpatient hospital attached.

Both have a lit "Emergency" sign on the building and both are open all night. Inside, one has operating rooms and inpatient suites, and the other connects patients to a hospital elsewhere in its network. With this many new doors open in 2026, that difference is the most useful thing to know about the map.

A year of openings, in order

A lot of this year's healthcare growth happened in north and central St. Johns County. WUSF's report puts the county's estimated population growth since 2020 at about 25%. Emergency care followed:

  1. February 23, 2026: HCA Florida St. Augustine Emergency opened at 1780 Woodlawn Road. HCA describes it as a 24/7 freestanding ER with 10 private rooms and a trauma bay.
  2. July 2026: AdventHealth's 12-bed freestanding ER near State Road 207 and Wildwood Drive, east of I-95, opened. AdventHealth announced July 14 as the patient opening date.
  3. June to September 2026: Baptist SilverLeaf Medical Campus at 8595 St. Johns Parkway opened in June with a Wellness Center, primary care, cardiology, rehabilitation and lab services. It then added orthopedics and neurology, and finally the emergency room, according to Baptist's announcement.
  4. September 22, 2026: The first phase of UF Health Durbin Park opened at 100 Flagler Health Way, St. Johns, on a 42.5-acre campus.

Only one of those four is a hospital. The other three are freestanding emergency rooms.

What stands behind each door

Here is every 24-hour emergency option serving north St. Johns, new and established, sorted by what kind of facility it is. Descriptions come from each health system's own pages and announcements.

Facility Address Type Opened
UF Health Durbin Park 100 Flagler Health Way, St. Johns 99-bed hospital with 24/7 ER September 22, 2026

UF Health Flagler Hospital 400 Health Park Blvd, St. Augustine 24-hour hospital Already open

HCA Florida Julington Creek Emergency 42 Doctors Village Dr, St Johns Freestanding ER, extension of HCA Florida Memorial Hospital Already open
HCA Florida St. Augustine Emergency 1780 Woodlawn Road, St. Augustine Freestanding ER February 23, 2026
AdventHealth ER near SR 207 SR 207 and Wildwood Drive area 12-bed freestanding ER July 2026

Before September, the hospitals on this list nearest the county's north end were Ascension St. Vincent's on Trinity Way and Baptist Medical Center South on Old St. Augustine Road in Jacksonville. UF Health Durbin Park adds a third hospital to that northern group. It also brings UF Health's inpatient care, which had been at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, up to the county's north end.

The freestanding ERs serve a real purpose. HCA's Julington Creek page calls that location an extension of HCA Florida Memorial Hospital, which shows how these sites work: they're connected to a hospital that sits somewhere else. Baptist describes its SilverLeaf team as equipped for "everything from minor fractures to chest pain," and the emergency center has its own imaging for X-rays, ultrasounds and CT scans.

This table describes facilities. It isn't guidance on where anyone should go. That decision belongs to you and your doctor, and in a true emergency, 911 dispatchers make the call.

Pediatric emergency care follows its own map

For families, the "type" column above is only half of it. Baptist pairs its ERs with Wolfson Children's Hospital, and its SilverLeaf announcement makes that the main point. The new emergency center is part of Wolfson Children's emergency network, which is backed by what Baptist calls the region's only full-service children's hospital and Northeast Florida's only state-designated, ACS-verified Level I Pediatric Trauma Center.

Two locations on this map list Wolfson Children's emergency care: Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonville, which has a separate Wolfson Children's ER next to its adult ER, and the new SilverLeaf emergency room. For households near World Golf Village and SilverLeaf, the closest Wolfson-affiliated pediatric emergency door is now on St. Johns Parkway, not in Jacksonville.

Non-emergency care is filling in too

The hospital beds get the headlines, but much of what changed this year is everyday care.

At Durbin Park, a 72,000-square-foot medical office building next to the hospital will host ENT, general surgery, gynecology, heart and vascular, lab services, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, pain management, rehabilitation and urology. The Jacksonville Daily Record gave its address as 120 Flagler Health Way. When the hospital opened in late September, the county said the building was "set to open to patients soon." No patient opening date had been announced as of late October, so it's best to check with UF Health before booking an appointment there.

For things that can't wait for an appointment but aren't emergencies, UF Health runs urgent care at MuraBella near World Golf Village and on the Flagler Hospital campus. Baptist's SilverLeaf campus covers primary care, cardiology, orthopedics, neurology and rehab under one roof. AdventHealth's first St. Johns County clinic is at 1000 Plantation Island Drive in St. Augustine.

Getting to Durbin Park

The new hospital sits inside the Durbin Park development. That development runs along Race Track Road on both sides of I-95, with State Road 9B as its western edge. A county planning report says the six-lane East Peyton Parkway arterial from Race Track Road to State Road 9B is complete, which gives the campus a direct arterial connection between those two roads.

What's still on the way

The map will keep changing. Here are the announced projects and how firm each one is:

  • UF Health Durbin Park medical office building: built, with a patient opening still to come.
  • Ascension St. Vincent's St. Johns County labor and delivery tower: 28,000 square feet, expected to be finished by the end of 2027, per Ascension.
  • AdventHealth World Commerce Center ER: a second 12-bed freestanding ER, projected for 2027.
  • A hospital at Baptist SilverLeaf: in February the Jacksonville Daily Record reported that the 33.6-acre site has room for a future 300,000-square-foot hospital. That is room on the site, not a construction start.

If all of these arrive on schedule, north St. Johns will have more freestanding ERs, a maternity tower on Trinity Way and a fully open Durbin Park campus by the end of 2027. A hospital at SilverLeaf hasn't moved past the site plan. For now, UF Health Durbin Park is the one new hospital of 2026, and it's open at 100 Flagler Health Way.
